Assumption Youth Ministry

A Little Bit About Us

Located in O’Fallon, MO, we are a Catholic community where teens (9th - 12 grade)* can feel welcome and loved & develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ! We build community & faith through music, skits, witnesses, sharing and prayer - in a totally cool way!

* The Junior High Ministry (6th - 8th grade) can be found at the calendar.

Youth Group was never more exciting or busier than it was in 2009.

Luke 18 had the biggest group of eighth graders that Assumption has ever seen. It’s dedicated workers have seen it grow much in the years since it began and yet the purpose remains the same, bringing everyone involved closer to Christ. Luke 18 was in all ways a rousing success and never has a team or group of eighth graders grown closer than during this one. It saw ups and downs but always kept the focus on God. We hope this is just the beginning of years and years more of Luke 18s to come.

Assumption’s Got Talent was in fine form. The jokes from the MC and the judges may have been bad but the talent from the contestants was far from it. Comedians, singers, actors, and a mixture of all three performed on the glowing stage that night proving just how amazing the people of Assumption are. It was one of those nights that you just don’t forget because talent was coming a mile a minute. We were lucky to have so many people doing so many different acts.

“So let love be repeated, so unchanging, freely given, always needed...love repeated!” And it was! This past summer we headed to Greensboro, North Carolina to be part of our (is it possible?) 10th annual mission trip with Catholic Heart Workcamp!!! It was an amazing week sharing the love of Jesus by serving those in need in the Greensboro area, where we revitalized homes for the elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford repairs. We also had the opporunity to work with local food pantries, shelters, children’s centers and much more. Check out what one teen had to say about her experience:

As promised, Workcamp pushes us out of our comfort zones. When we are not comfortable, we are forced to work with others, trust others, and be open to new things. Being exposed to the lives and homes of those who live in different circumstances was a shock to me. Serving others at Workcamp was a humbling experience. It taught me that the reason for service is to share God’s love for us with others while seeing God in those we serve.- Julie, age 17

And in 2010 we’re headed to Louisville, KY to do it all over again! “And let Christ be received in our hearts, in our homes, in our streets, in our lives...love repeated!”

In 2009, we outdid ourselves with our 6th annual musical fundraiser “High School Musical” The O’Fallon community couldn’t stop raving about the amazing talent of Assumption Youth Ministry’s teens as they took the stage and wowed audiences night after night! With all of our shows performed to sold out houses, we were literally ‘soaring and flying’ to new heights as the Holy Spirit flowed through this incredible project to make it once again an incredible success. Through our efforts we have raised over $8000 for our teens to go out into the world and make a difference serving on mission trips this summer. Well done everyone...we can’t wait to see how you top it next year!

Where will 2010 take Extreme Teen? It will be a year of changes and great newness. Pro-Life Trip, Luke 18, CHWC and the musical will be highlights but we must remember that every day is a gift that is both from God and for Him. So we open the New Year with a spring in our step that we will be better than ever and that this year we will be dedicated once more to having a good time with our God.

What Inspires Us?

Quote: "A thousand times I've failed, still your mercy remains. Should I stumble again, still I'm caught in your grace." - Hillsong Band

Challenge: God is so great. We hear this in praise but also in the things he does every single day for us, including forgiving sins. No matter how often we fall, God can and will pick us back up. This week, thank him for that with our life of praise.

Passage: "I kneel in prayer to the Father. All beings in heaven and on earth receive their life from him. God is wonderful and glorius. I pray that his Spirit will make you become strong followers" - Ephesians 3:14-16
